The Conversation You’ve Always Been Having

We’re often told we have five senses, but here’s something wonderful: you actually have many more ways of sensing and knowing than you’ve been taught to recognize. These haven’t disappeared—they’re simply waiting for you to notice them again.

Think about the last time you walked outside into nature. Before your mind started analyzing, what did your body already know? Maybe your breathing naturally got deeper. Perhaps your shoulders softened. Your eyes might have taken in the colors differently. That was your body recognizing something familiar—remembering its connection to the natural world.

When We Feel Disconnected

You know those times when your body feels tense or unfamiliar? When your breath feels shallow, your shoulders creep up toward your ears, and everything feels muted or overwhelming?

This is what we lovingly call a “disconnected state”—when busy thoughts take over and we temporarily lose touch with our body’s natural wisdom. This doesn’t mean anything is wrong with you. It’s simply part of being human in our fast-paced world.

The Beautiful Shift Back to Connection

Here’s the empowering truth: your body remembers how to feel connected. There’s another way of being always available to you—a “connected state” where your body becomes a source of wisdom you can trust, where you feel part of the world around you rather than separate from it.

The shift between these states can happen quickly, and it often starts with something as simple as conscious breathing.

A Gentle Practice: Breathing with Nature

Let’s try this together:

Place one hand on your heart, one on your belly. You’re doing this right now—this is real.

Take a slow breath in, knowing that you’re receiving oxygen that plants created. As you breathe out, recognize that you’re giving plants the carbon dioxide they need.

Feel this gentle exchange. You and the plants are literally supporting each other’s life with every breath.
